Rodan + Fields

If you've read my previous blog posts, you know that I am currently enrolled as a seminary student, seeking to learn and grow in my faith. I know that God has called me to do great things, and I believe that through my seminary education, I will be equipped and ready when that call comes.

That being said, I am a full-time student. This means that I am living on student loans and I am saving every penny I can. Then, Rodan + Fields entered the picture. A high-end skincare business selling products developed by the doctors that created ProActive that I could market without having to throw parties and without having to keep a stockpile of inventory.

When I first heard about the Rodan + Fields business opportunity, I must admit that I was skeptical. I felt like it was just too simple...promote a product and get paid. That's it?

So, I contacted the friend of mine (Caitlin) that was selling Rodan + Fields, and we decided to meet at Chili's for dinner. Now, I have to say that Caitlin is someone I trust completely. I've known her since we were in pre-school and we were in school and Girl Scouts together from kindergarten through our senior year of high school (yes, we were Girl Scouts all the way through high school).

Over some tasty appetizers, Caitlin explained the Rodan + Fields opportunity to me -- it is a company formed by the creators of ProActive that now focuses not only on acne treatment, but on reversing sun damage, soothing irritated and sensitive skin, and creating innovative anti-aging treatments. R+F was originally marketed in high-end department stores (think Nordstrom), having partnered with Estée Lauder, and was the number one selling brand of skincare.

After doing a tremendous amount of research, Dr. Rodan and Dr. Field determined that the most effective way to market their skincare regimens was through the direct sales market. So, in March of 2008, the Rodan + Fields direct marketing company was born. Since then, each year has boasted triple digit growth.

To me, the success of the company was merit enough for me to invest in becoming an independent consultant. Then, Caitlin told me about her personal success and it was a done deal. Caitlin has a master's degree in health administration and in eight months of owning her own Rodan + Fields business, she has matched her full-time salary at the hospital she works at.

A Life of Adventure

The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.

-Oprah Winfrey

For as long as I can remember, I've been a people person. For the same amount of time, I have been passionately involved in my church. When a vocation exists where your passions can be lived out, and you feel called to that vocation, I feel like you would be foolish to pass such an opportunity up.

That being said, good GRIEF! Seminary is tough! I am blessed to have some phenomenal professors, though. Each is passionate about the subject that they teach and genuinely want to impart their wisdom on us scholars.

One of the difficulties that I have encountered, however, is having the financial means to accomplish living the life of my dreams. This is why I have partnered with my long-time friend, Caitlin, and started my own Rodan + Fields business. When Caitlin shared the incredible opportunity of what Rodan + Fields has to offer, I knew that this was the business for me!

As I begin these adventures, I am so excited for the possibilities that are in front of me. With the potential revenue from Rodan + Fields, I can sponsor mission work, help any church that I am a part as a financial supporter, and I can follow my call wherever God takes me.

I fully intend to live the life of my dreams and one filled with adventure. I can't wait to see what God has planned!

The Road Taken...

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
-Robert Frost
I love the imagery that this poem provides. More than that, however, I love the idea of the poem -- that in choosing to blaze a trail that few have taken, our lives can be positively impacted. I'm blazing a trail for myself.
It started three years ago, when I made the commitment to do something that was outside of my everyday routine at least once a week for a year. That year turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Road trips with friends, concerts, attending a taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show...that year far surpassed my expectations.
In the years that have followed, I have experienced Las Fallas in Spain, graduated from college, taught Kindergarten, and I am now in seminary and learning how to live a life of ministry.
I am ready for the adventures that my future holds, and it is up to me to be willing to jump at the new opportunities God places in my life.
I'm jumping!
